Trip Start-up

It's hard to beat the Paris-Italy combination, so we will mix a trip to Paris (including a return to the Wine Salon!) with some magnifico Italiano adventures. After a good dose of Parisian wine (and other French delights), we will head for Rome to spend a week in the Eternal City. We haven't visited Rome since 1996 and still have much to see and do including the recently opened underground section of the Colosseum.

Finally, we will go off the tourist grid to the heel of Italy's boot where we will explore Matera, a cave city that is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places on earth. Matera is so authentically ancient that movies like "The Passion of the Christ" have been filmed here.  We will also roam  Puglia, a little known but up-and-coming region known for olive oil, wine, and it's laidback rural lifestyle.  We'll be here for Easter and hope to experience some of the elaborate celebrations. Our home base will be in a trulli -- a funny round dwelling with a cone-shaped roof that looks like a perfect house for elves!

We will post trip reports and photos as we go along. As always, thank you for joining us on another journey!

Ciao!
